I received an ARC of Brightstorm and loved the characters. Twins have lost their dad while he was venturing to South Polaris. Maudie and Arthur are struggling to find food after losing Dad, but more importantly struggling with accepting their father is gone. They need to know what happened, but how...Miss Harriet Culpepper offers the twins jobs during the Transcontinental Expedition race to South Polaris. Will they find the answers they desire? What happened to dad? Could he be alive?
Excellent middle grade read!

They Called Us Enemy by George Takei My rating: 5 of 5 stars George Takei's memoir in graphic novel format is absolutely a must read! A fellow teacher recommended I read this and I am so glad I did. I will add this memoir as an option for my 7th grade literature circle reads. It is amazing to me the way anyone of Japanese descent were forced into internment camps, which essentially was incarceration, even though they were American citizens. As a child, George and his family were moved from their home to a horse stall, small quarters, and then the camps lined with barbed wire. The truck is integral to the family in different ways throughout the years, such as a work help, but also as a piece used in imaginative ways.
